Ken Van Vleck joined GCA Law Partners LLP in 2007. He is an experienced real-estate litigator, with extensive trial, arbitration and appellate practice focused on real-estate and construction disputes since 1993.

Ken offers comprehensive mediation services, helping others to resolve their disputes. He brings his several decades of litigation experience to his mediation practice.

Ken represents businesses and individuals in disputes involving real-estate finance, title, non-disclosure, commercial evictions, land boundaries, easements, trespasses, encroachments, and all manner of breach-of-contract or fraud claims. He represents buyers and sellers, brokers and agents, landlords and tenants, investors, lenders and borrowers, and common-boundary neighbors.

He represents owners and contractors in construction-defect, surety-bond, contractor-payment, and mechanic’s-lien litigation. Ken was the sole trial counsel and lead appellate attorney in the 2007 seminal decision of Wright v. Issak, successfully arguing that contractors who fail to maintain workers’ compensation insurance at all times become unlicensed contractors as a matter of law.

Ken regularly lectures to real-estate brokers and agents on issues of real-estate law. And he authors R.E.A.C.H., a quarterly newsletter for real-estate and construction professionals.

Ken is Chairman of the Commercial Real Estate Litigation subcommittee of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation. And as a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, he has served on its Board of Trustees, Civil Litigation Practice Committee, Financial Committee and Professionalism Committee. He has earned Martindale Hubbell’s highest rating (AV), ranking him “at the highest level of professional excellence.”

Ken received his law degree from University of California College of the Law, San Francisco in 1993 and his B.A. in English from Stanford University in 1990. Active in his community, Ken has coached and managed teams for Palo Alto Little League and Palo Alto AYSO, and is a Master Instructor for the Stanford Kenpo Karate Club.
