Barbara Small joined GCA Law Partners LLP as a partner in May 2014 and established the firm’s Trusts and Estates practice. Barbara’s practice covers estate planning, decedent’s estate administration (probate), trust administration, conservatorship/guardianship matters, and elder law counseling. Her clients are drawn from all levels of the business and social structure in Silicon Valley, from innovative CEO’s and pioneering legal leaders to individual family members and elders intent on preserving their independence.
Barbara is a member of the Silicon Valley Bar Association, and the California State Bar Section for Trusts and Estates. From 2006 through 2015, Barbara was active with the Silicon Valley Bar Association, where she presented programs, chaired several committees and served as member of the Board of Trustees and Treasurer. Barbara is a member of the attorney referral panel of the California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform for conservatorship, estate, and elder law matters; and is certified for appointment by the superior court to represent elders in conservatorship matters in Santa Clara County, San Mateo County and Santa Cruz County.
Her previous professional experience includes running her own Trusts and Estates practice for over four years (2010-2014), as well as practicing in the trusts, estates, and conservatorship practice of the Law Offices of Besson & Yarbrough in Los Altos. Before developing her specialization in Trusts and Estates, she also had extensive business litigation experience as an in-house attorney at Oracle Corporation and as an associate attorney at Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati. She held a clerkship with the Federal District Court in San Francisco.
Barbara earned her JD from Santa Clara University Law School and her Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of San Francisco.
